Mad on Mad Men….
I finally got myself caught up with season 3 of Mad Men today. Wow. It is by far the most wonderful show on television at the moment and is the best thing since The Sopranos/The Wire (I can never decide which I prefer).
Everything about Mad Men is so beautiful. The sixties. The evolution of Peggy from the sweet and shy secretary to this figure who comes to represent the empowerment of women in the workplace - she is an equal to the men in the office; all right down to her dark hidden secrets. Joan, easily the sexiest woman on television. Betty, so sweet *sigh* she makes me melt. Pete, a younger version of Don, except he makes me want to punch him. The humour is so subtle and crafted. The dialogue is perfect.
It is easily the best show on television, and it pisses all over Lost. I’ve been watching Lost religiously ever since my sister got me the DVD box set of season one whilst the show was about midway through season two on TV, but it is an awful, awful show. I watched the season premiere of the final season on Friday night and I spent a large quantity of the duration laughing at my TV. Laughing and telling Lost to fuck off. I honestly have never found myself shouting the words “fuck off” at a television set so loudly and so often as I did watching those two episodes of Lost. It is just non-sensical garbage and I hate myself for being unable to miss an episode.
Even 24 is better than Lost, and I found myself laughing at it two years ago. 24 is different though. You kind of find yourself laughing with Jack Bauer rather than at him, because you just know that there isn’t a terrorist on earth who can cause mass destruction without being thwarted by Jack. Damn it! I love it when he says that, even though it’s becoming a little tiresome now that he’s saying it almost every hour.
