Got the comfy seats on the 13:25 from Euston to Glasgow; the comfy seats away from the crowds and the masses of coughing strangers. Got the comfy seats on the Virgin Train with a window view all to myself, and unlimited access to the toilet. Paid £108 for the comfy seats on the floor between Coach A and Coach B. Thank you Richard Branson for your fucking online booking system.

A walk through Euston Station is like stepping inside a time machine where I can travel back into a vast collection of memories, like a room full of antique paintings, each telling their own story. The nervous wait before our first meeting; writing a letter the next day in the belief it would be our last. Raindrops on a February morning. The best afternoon in September; teardrops by nightfall....

I wanna go back....
I’ve been thinking about my first trip to Portsmouth a lot today.  I don’t know why specifically that trip or what brought it to mind, but it has been very prominant in my thoughts.  It’s easy to recall events from your memory with a great degree of added hyperbole, but those couple of days at the start of October really were very special.  I think that if there was one day I...

Just a thought..........: Thought for the day*.... →
caricatureoflife: … It’s funny I was just thinking about this last night…I started smoking when I was 14 or 15. I started really smoking at 17 & quit around 26. Cold turkey and never cheated. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve had one but there are days that I would LOVE a puff! I loved… Oh, I know!  I’ve been “quitting” to various degrees of success for around...

Thought for the day*....
Cigarette packets quite explicitly state that SMOKING KILLS!!!!!!! So why do smokers still smoke when they know that SMOKING KILLS!!!!!!!? We don’t tend to cross a busy road when the traffic lights are at green. We don’t open airplane doors when told not to. We don’t piss in the wind. So why do we continue to smoke those cigarettes? *Because I literally** have only one...

Okay Tumblr....
Here I am posting on your dashboard again.  Like a man with a bungee chord attached to his belt, I keep coming back to you. I dabbled recently with a WordPress blog which used the Dictionary.com Word of the Day as inspiration for each post.  I think I made three entries before realising that I didn’t have the patience to continue. Tumblr, it seems, is like that favourite toy you had in...

So much goodness in the next few months....
Oh, and yeah, I do realise the irony in me Tumbleblogging all this shit after my post yesterday about not posting very much when I am happy.  I kinda Lol’d when I remembered that today following the 94 photographs I posted last night. Whatever. There are so many awesome things to look forward to between now and the end of the summer. Firstly, there is Mika at the end of this month. ...

Mad on Mad Men....
I finally got myself caught up with season 3 of Mad Men today. Wow. It is by far the most wonderful show on television at the moment and is the best thing since The Sopranos/The Wire (I can never decide which I prefer). Everything about Mad Men is so beautiful. The sixties. The evolution of Peggy from the sweet and shy secretary to this figure who comes to represent the empowerment of women...

I think I’ve said it here before that there is a direct correlation between my level of happiness and the consistency of my Tumbleblogging, ie. lots of Tumbleblogging comes as a result of deep depression whereas any kind of happiness results in irregular postings. The large week-long gap between my last Tumblr post and this one therefore intimates that I am currently basking in the glow of...

Isn't it iRonic...?
I never really felt the urge to jump aboard the Apple bandwagon and get myself an iPod, for many reasons.  Firstly, I just don’t have the need to carry virtually every album I own everywhere I go.  I always found the 200+ song capacity of my regular MP3 player to be quite substantial, especially when I would find myself skipping through three songs to find one that I want to hear.  Secondly,...

Act One, Scene One The stage is set to a typical suburban middle class scene.  There’s a perfectly nurtured garden surrounded by rows of white picket fencing.  We watch as our main character enters his home after a long day at the office.  Jim loosens his tie as he hangs his overcoat on the hook behind the door. Jim: Honey, I’m home! There is silence as Jim tosses away the...

Response to a letter....
To the editor RE:  Your review of my new oakwood furniture dining collection (issue 293) Sir, it was with great interest that I noted the substantial review afforded to my latest collection in a recent issue of your esteemed publication. May I first say that I find your magazine to be the finest resource for information amongst the thriving home furnishing media market.  Not only does it exude...

Which is more "gay": drinking cappuccino or...
Whilst waiting to get into the screening of Sherlock Holmes at the Vue in Portsmouth last Thursday I decided to buy myself a cappuccino.  It was an early afternoon viewing and I hadn’t had my caffeine fix that morning, not to mention that my most recent visits to the cinema had resulted in me falling asleep during the picture.  I figured that a cappuccino would resolve both of those issues. ...

Once you pop...
One of the recurring themes through Coffee and Cigarettes is the unhealthy nature of a lunch consisting of the abforementioned vices.  It’s what attracted me to the film when I recognised its title billowing from the shelf like an exhaled cloud of smoke.  As is often said in the film, nothing goes better than coffee and cigarettes. However, something almost goes better than coffee and...

Coffee and Cigarettes →
When I was browsing the film section in HMV in Portsmouth last week, this DVD caught my eye.  I wanted to buy it, purely because of the title.  Without even reading the synopsis, I knew that I had to see Coffee and Cigarettes.  As it goes, I picked up the DVD and was hooked further by its description.  It’s a series of short films all based around people sitting and talking over coffee and...

Grey matter....
Oh my God!  I found what I think was a grey hair on my head this morning.  At the very least it was a white hair.  Or it could, perhaps optimistically, been described as being a silver hair.  Whatever shade it was, the point is that I am twenty-six years-old and have a pretty good head of dark hair.  This morning I discovered that my dark hair had been infiltrated by a grey outsider. So what does...

What did I dream last night?
I awoke this morning and turned to read the notebook on my bedside table.  I knew I had dreamt something in the night and had quickly scribbled a note in the darkness.  This is what I wrote: Nightmare on Elm Street; Freddy Krueger stands for the values of the middle-classes and readers of The Times; cares about climate change.
